Painter, draughtsman and engraver, born in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, where he was educated at the Academy. After National Service in Malaya, 1955–7, West attended Chelsea School of Art, 1957–9. From 1960–70 he contributed to mixed exhibitions at Beaux Arts Gallery, the New Art Centre, Young Contemporaries and LG, having solo shows at Hamet Gallery, 1973, Parkin Gallery, 1977 and Blond Fine Art, 1980. Between 1981–4, West contributed to travelling mixed shows sponsored by the Arts Council, in 1985 having a solo exhibition at Edward Totah Gallery, showing paintings at Fischer Fine Art in 1987, Austin/Desmond Fine Art, 1990, and in 1992 at Flowers East, the year a collection of his drawings was exhibited at the Graves Art Gallery, Sheffield.
