
Artist and teacher, born in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, working in oil, watercolour, printmaking and with objects. He studied at Birmingham College of Art, Royal Academy Schools in 1950s with Bernard Fleetwood-Walker and at Courtauld Institute. Went on to become principal lecturer in fine art at Leeds Polytechnic/Leeds Metropolitan University, 1968–91. Group shows included Redfern Gallery, 1955; Carnegie International in Pittsburgh, America, and Kaplan Gallery, both 1958; John Moores Liverpool Exhibition, 1961; Contemporary Art Society, British Painting in the Sixties, 1963; Richard Demarco Gallery, Edinburgh, 1968; and Arts Spectrum, Alexandra Palace, 1971. Had many solo shows in Britain and abroad, including Gallery One, 1958 and 1961; ICA, 1964; and Leeds City Art Gallery, 1979.
