Painter, draughtsman and muralist, son of the artist John Ward. Toby attended The King’s School, Canterbury; Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst; and the City and Guilds of London Art School, winning the Richard Ford Travel Award. He carried out many commissions: for the National Trust, to draw the conservation of Chastleton House, Oxfordshire; in 1993, accompanying The Prince of Wales, to record his tour of the Gulf States; in 1995, in Bosnia with United Nations troops, recording the life of peace-keeping force; by Sir Brinsley Ford, to paint 22 episodes from his life; to design the menu for Mastercard International’s 30th Anniversary Banquet at Hampton Court; to draw a 1st Armoured Division exercise in Poland; in 1997–00, drawing the rebuilding of The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; to paint scenes in The Ritz for The Ritz Hotel; in 2001, for Associated Newspapers, to draw President Bill Clinton’s visit to Oxford University; in 2003, to draw the Open Championship at Royal St George’s, Sandwich, and to paint a mural at Glan Honddu, Wales.
