Painter, draughtsman and teacher, born in London. He studied at Chelsea School of Art and after teaching at several venues became senior lecturer in painting at Sunderland Polytechnic. Ward’s work had a popular, jokey quality, drawing its inspiration from everyday geordie life in the northeast. He took part in many group shows, including AIA; John Moores Exhibition, Liverpool, 1976; Bede Gallery, Jarrow, 1981; Three Painters, Middlesbrough’s Cleveland Gallery, 1986; and The Northern Lights, Newcastle Group’s 1990 touring show at DLI Museum & Arts Centre, Durham. Arts Council, Sussex University and Nuffield Foundation hold examples. Solo exhibitions included Bede Gallery, 1973 and 1986; Greenwich Theatre Gallery, 1979; Sunderland Arts Centre, 1982; and Gateshead Library, 1988.
