Painter, graphic artist, printmaker and muralist, born in Yorkshire, who did a foundation course at Kingston School of Art, 1972–3; a graphic arts degree at Camberwell School of Art, 1973–6; and his master’s in printmaking at Chelsea School of Art, 1976–7. After his first show, Walker travelled extensively through America, Europe, the Far East and North Africa. Undertook travel commission for Sinclair, Roche and Temperley (Hong Kong & Singapore), 1991, collaborations including a project with British Telecom and RMJM Architects, 1996, and a mural for One Aldwych restaurant, 1998. His many solo exhibitions included Metropolitan at New Academy Gallery, 1998, where he aptly recorded the speed and razzmatazz of modern city life. Walker’s show World’s Edge, at that gallery, 2002, stemmed from his reactions to the September 11, 2001, New York terrorist attacks on a city he had documented for many years.
