Painter of stylised “landscapes, seascapes, strange events and houses,” and teacher, born in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, America. He was great-nephew of Sir Armigel Wade and H R Wade, watercolourists, his wife being the granddaughter of the artist Paul Maze. Wade was taught by Tom Griffiths at Lancing College, 1974–8. After joining the Royal Highland Fusiliers in 1978, the Army sponsored him at St Andrews University where he gained his master’s degree. He had three tours in Northern Ireland; took part in the Gulf War, 1990–1, being mentioned in dispatches 1991, leaving that year to become a painter. Wade made painting trips to Pakistan in 1993 and Bosnia in 1994, having painted in India, 1979, Turkey, 1980 and 1983, and Pakistan, 1982.
