Painter, born in Leeds, Yorkshire, who did a foundation course at York College of Arts and Technology, 1982–3; gained a fine art (painting) first-class degree at Newcastle University, 1983–7; and a postgraduate diploma (painting) at Royal Academy Schools, 1988–91. He won a series of awards, including The Painter-Stainers Award, Richard Ford Award for Study in Spain, National Trust Foundation for Art Commissions and a Marks and Spencer Young Artist Award. Vilarrubi took part in many group exhibitions, including Diverse Landscapes, University of Northumbria, 1999. His solo shows included the Star Gallery, Lewes, 1999. Leeds City Council, The National Trust and corporate collections hold examples.
