Painter, born in Falmouth. She studied at the School of Art there, then Winchester School of Art, completing a postgraduate degree course at Chelsea School of Art in 1984. Verran’s pictures could be disturbing images which took something from figuration and abstraction. A museum visit or reading a poem could suggest the basis of a picture. Human frailty was an abiding theme. Verran was a founder-member of City Artists. She also showed with Francis Graham-Dixon Gallery, was included in the Celtic Vision touring exhibition seen in Cornwall, Cardiff and Dublin in 1987–8, and elsewhere. Her oil on canvas Black Painting No. 7 was included in the 1997–8 John Moores Liverpool Exhibition. Had a solo exhibition at Newlyn Art Gallery, 1997. In 2001 Focus Gallery organised an exhibition, The Tuileries Garden Sculptures and Other Photographs, by Bruce Bernard, chosen by Verran, whose companion he had been.
