Painter, printmaker and teacher, born in Swindon, Wiltshire. Studied at the School of Art there, 1954–7, then at Slade School of Fine Art, 1957–60, winning a Boise Scholarship to travel in latter year. Early in 1960s Vaux appeared in Paris and Tokyo Biennales. He had a solo show at Grabowski Gallery in 1963, another at Hamilton Galleries in 1965, others including Whitechapel Art Gallery in 1973, Redfern Gallery in 1994 and Bernard Jacobson Gallery, 2003 and 2005. Taught at Bath Academy of Art and Hornsey College of Art for a decade from 1962 and was principal lecturer in painting from 1973 at Central School of Art and Design. Vaux produced geometrical and sometimes Minimal abstracts where were held by Tate Gallery, Arts Council and Gulbenkian Foundation.
