Artist noted for his ceramic work and teacher, born in Sheerness, Kent. Before studying painting and illustration at Royal Academy Schools, 1938–40, he travelled in the Pacific. After World War II service Tower attended Dora Billington’s ceramic classes at Central School of Arts and Crafts, met Clifford Ellis and was invited to join Bath Academy of Art staff, where he stayed 1949–64. At various times Tower was interested in sculpture related to architecture and mosaic, sculptured forms and decorated forms. In 1963 he won a Leverhulme Research Award for terracotta research. From 1966–86 was head of sculpture department at Brighton Polytechnic. Tower’s work was shown regularly at Gimpel Fils and he was included in Corsham A Celebration, Victoria Art Gallery, Bath, 1988–9, and tour.
