Artist and teacher, full name Brüer Tidman, under which name he latterly exhibited, who was especially interested in the human figure. Born in Norfolk, he trained at Great Yarmouth College of Art, 1957–61, and at Royal College of Art, 1961–4. Taught at Chesterfield College of Art and then at Lowestoft College School of Art and Design, 1976–84. Awards included 1st Athena International Art Awards, 2nd Prize, Mall Galleries 1985 (Brüer’s picture The Rehearsal emerged from about 1,000 drawings made at the Hippodrome Circus, Great Yarmouth, in the summers of 1984–5); East Anglian Artists Open Exhibition, 1st Prize, 1986; Drawings for All, Gainsborough’s House, Sudbury, 2nd Prize, 1996, and 1st Prize, 2000. Among later group shows were The Wahrenberger Gallery, Zürich, Switzerland, 1996; Twin Images, Fine Art Society, 1998; and Eastern Open, Fermoy Centre, King’s Lynn, 1999.
