Muralist, stained glass designer and writer, born in Barnstaple, Devon. After Bradfield College he attended Byam Shaw School of Painting and Drawing, 1928–34. He was Rome Scholar in Mural Painting, 1934–7. Vision and Technique in European Painting, 1952, and the Master Glass Painters’ Directory, 1972, were among his books. Thomas’ own work was held by St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Tower of London, Winchester Cathedral and St George’s Chapel, Windsor. He was master of the Art Workers’ Guild in 1952 and of the Glaziers’ Company in 1976. Lived at Charminster, Bournemouth, Dorset, in a residential care home.
