Painter and teacher, born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He studied at Slade School of Fine Art, 1972–5, then completed a postgraduate degree in the history of art at Courtauld Institute. Sujo’s own work, such as his canvas Roma, the Fountain, at John Moores Liverpool Exhibition, 1987, looked back to the classical Italian tradition. He showed in Caracas, Venezuela, where he lived as a child, solo shows including Bluecoat Gallery, Liverpool, and tour, 1982, and Anne Berthoud, 1983. In 1994 Sujo with Harris Museum and Art Gallery, Preston, and Ipswich Museum organised exhibitions of his own work and British drawings. He saw the role of the artist as “history’s caretaker” and sought to show “the diversity of drawing as a record of lived experience”.
