Portrait painter, born in Alloway, Ayrshire, full name Euphans Hilary Strain. She married the artist Harold Wyllie and studied for some time with his father, W L Wyllie. Initially studied at Glasgow School of Art with Maurice Greiffenhagen, 1909–11 and 1922–5. During World War I she drove for the Young Men’s Christian Association in France and organised land girls in Ayrshire. In 1926 Strain joined the Glasgow Society of Lady Artists and won its Lauder Award in 1953. Exhibited RA, RSA, RP, RSMA and Paris Salon. Lived in Portsmouth, Hampshire.
