Painter in oil, theatre designer, teacher and gallery owner, born and lived in London, who attended the Slade School of Fine Art, 1949–52, teachers including William Coldstream, Robert Medley and John Piper. Stanton worked and designed for the theatre; designed decorative panels for hotels; started and ran the Leigh Underhill Gallery; and became head of art at St Dunstan’s College, Catford. His work was included in Beryl Dean’s Designing Ecclesiastical Textiles. Geometrical abstracts and plant forms were features of his pictures, which were shown at RA Summer Exhibition, Contemporary Portrait Society, RI and Islington Art Circle. Solo exhibitions included All Hallows-by-the-Tower, Salford City Art Gallery, Canonbury Bookshop Gallery and John Jones Gallery.
