James Herbert Snell, RBA, ROI, was an English landscape painter. Snell studied art at Heatherleys, London, Paris and Amsterdam. He was elected to the Royal Society of British Artists in 1890 where he exhibited 47 times and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 1909 where he exhibited 118 times. Snell lived in London in 1880; Glasgow, 1897; Tonbridge, Kent, 1900; and Burnham, Bucks in 1902. He exhibited widely including 45 works at the Royal Academy, as well as at the Royal Cambrian Academy, Royal Hibernian Society, the Royal Society of Painters in Water Colours, the Royal Scottish Academy, Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, and Manchester City Art Gallery.
