Wood engraver and painter who was born in Hertfordshire. She studied at Goldsmiths’ College School of Art, 1921–4, at the Royal Academy Schools, 1925–30, and in Paris, 1931–4, with Gino Severini and André Lhote, devoting some time to the study of fresco painting. Exhibited RA, SWE, NEAC, LG and had one-man shows at the Wertheim Gallery, 1933, Nicholson Gallery, 1939, and in Dublin. Rivers was a member of Lucy Wertheim’s Twenties Group and Wertheim illustrates a mural design by Rivers in her book Adventure in Art. Rivers wrote several books, including Stranger in Aran, 1946. The British Museum and Belfast Museum and Art Gallery hold her work. Died at Dalkey, near Dublin, where The Gorry Gallery held a retrospective in 1989.
