Painter in oil, born in London. She was a medical student for four years, during which time she painted scenery and carried out medical art commissions, then studied at Byam Shaw School of Drawing and Painting, 1955–9, teachers including Charles Mahoney, Bernard Dunstan and Peter Greenham, followed by part-time studies at City & Guilds, 1961–3. She showed at NEAC, 1958, and at RA, 1962–3 and then from 1989, her painting being interrupted by bringing up a family. Riches’ meticulously constructed pictures concentrated on portraits, mainly of the elderly, and on industrial scenes; a brickyard in Bridgwater preoccupied her from 1958 until its closure in 1965, the town’s Admiral Blake Museum showing the work in 2000. Lived in Chichester, Sussex.
