Painter and sculptor, born at Tarare, near Lyons, France, where he studied at the École nationale des Beaux-Arts, 1902–6, winning a gold medal for anatomy. Appointed art teacher at the École municipale de Dessin et d’Art industriel in Tarare, later becoming principal, a post held until 1952. In that year he married Elizabeth Brown, a French teacher, from Belfast and went to live there, where he died. After World War I service Riboulet had studied sculpture in Paris and in the 1920s completed a number of French war memorials, one in Tarare. In 1937 won a gold medal at Paris International Exhibition. Showed widely in Ireland, was elected RUA and had several solo shows, including a retrospective at Queen’s University in 1972. In 1971 he received the Ordre du Mérite from the French government but died before it could be officially conferred.
