
Sculptor, printmaker and lecturer, born in Surrey, who attended Portsmouth College of Art, 1965–8; was a Japanese government scholar at Tokyo University’s department of fine art, 1970–2; and gained his Master of Philosophy degree for studies in metaphysical perspective, 1983. Owen lectured at Liverpool College of Art, 1969–70; Hornsey College of Art, 1973–5; was artist-in-residence at Trent Polytechnic, Nottingham, 1975–8; then was in the fine art department at Portsmouth Polytechnic, 1978–84. In 1988 he gave the Giorgio de Chirico Centenary Lecture at the British School, Rome, and Portsmouth City Library. Ran a department at Southampton Institute involved in “Art research, employing art strategies as a scientific method”, and had solo exhibitions including Aspex Gallery, Portsmouth, 1988; Southampton City Art Gallery, 1990; and 21st Century, 54–5 Slaidburn Street, Chelsea, 1996.
