Versatile artist and lecturer, full name Leslie Lionel Scott Nisbet, born in London, who studied at Camberwell School of Art and Goldsmiths’ College, 1930–5, teachers including William Coldstream, Victor Pasmore and Carel Weight. He gained a British Institution Scholarship and Highly Commended, Prix de Rome. Nisbet taught from 1936–9 at South East Essex Technical College & School of Art. During World War II, from 1940 served with the Ambulance Service during the London Blitz, between 1941–6 with the Royal Army Educational Corps. He taught art at University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, 1946–76, from then until the late 1980s in the extra-mural department. Group exhibitions included the RA and RBA; British Art, Toronto, Canada, 1936; and City of Birmingham Art Gallery, 1951.
