Artist, born and worked in London, who obtained an honours degree in fine art, painting, at St Martin’s School of Art, 1984–7, gaining his master’s degree at Goldsmiths’ College, 1990–2. He was included in Young British Artists II at Saatchi Gallery, which holds his work, in 1993; there, by computer-doctoring photographs, Murphy examined such ideas as personal and collective memory and information control.
