Painter and teacher, born in Bath, Somerset, who attended West of England College of Art in Bristol, where he settled. He taught at Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital School for nine years and was course co-ordinator for the department of foundation studies at Bristol Polytechnic until 1987. Was made a member of RWA in 1979, being appointed Director of the Academy’s New Gallery in 2002. Had a long series of solo shows, including Bear Lane Gallery, Oxford, from 1963; Oxford Gallery, from 1970; and Park Street Gallery, Bristol, from 1978; later ones including Albany Gallery, Cardiff, 1991, and Toll House Gallery, Clevedon, 2001: landscapes, beachscapes, figurative works and life drawings. Bank of America, London and Amsterdam; Museum of Modern Art, Skopje; and Oxford and Bath Universities and numerous education authorities hold examples.
