Elizabeth W. Muntz [commonly known as Elizabeth Muntz; also known as Betty Muntz] was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on 26 October 1894 and studied at Ontario College of Art [now OCAD University] in Toronto; and under Antoine Bourdelle (1861-1929) at the Académie Grande Chaumière in Paris. In the mid 1920s she moved to England and settled in London where she received lessons in sculpture from the sculptor Frank Dobson (1886-1963).

Muntz subsequently worked as a sculptor. She primarily produced figures, groups and portrait busts. She also worked as a painter in oils and tempera.

She exhibited at the Royal Academy, Goupil Gallery, Cooling Galleries, and the Society of Women Artists in London; the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts; the Paris Salon; and in Berlin, Leipzig, Montreal and New York. In 1927 she joined the 7 & 5 Society and exhibited with them until 1929, and from 1923 to 1938 exhibited with the London Group who elected her a member in 1927. She participated in the LG's Open-Air Sculpture exhibition on the roof gardens of Selfridge & Co in Oxford Street, London in 1930.

In the 1960s she was commissioned to make a statue of King Harold for Waltham Abbey in Essex.

In 1929 Muntz purchased Apple Tree Cottage in East Chaldon, Dorchester, Dorset and subsequently lived there permanently from 1932. She died on 30 March 1977. Her death was recorded in Weymouth, Dorset.
