Artist, especially in pen and ink and watercolour, born in Cheadle, Cheshire. Educated at Sedbergh School, he was articled to Thomas Worthington & Sons, architects, in Manchester, but ill-health prevented his following a professional career, so encouraged by his amateur painter father he turned to art. From 1908–11 studied at Slade School of Fine Art with Henry Tonks and at Westminster School of Art with Walter Sickert. After World War I service in First British Ambulance Unit in Italy, in 1919 resumed professional artist’s life and joined NEAC, where he showed regularly. In 1928 elected member of Manchester Academy, where he showed until 1952. Milne travelled widely in Britain and on the continent, producing work of singular delicacy. In 1947 shared show with Robin Ironside at Redfern Gallery.
