
Painter, especially of landscape in watercolour, born in Faversham, Kent, a self-taught artist. Miles did many jobs throughout his life, including labouring, working as a process artist, a signwriter and painter of scenery, then self-employed designer and painter. He was able to paint full-time from the late 1960s, working in Gwaelod y Garth, Glamorgan. A member of RI from 1949, also of SWG, and in 1985 president of both WSW and SWAS, Miles showed in group exhibitions with Royal National Eisteddfod and SEA, and at RA in the early 1950s. Solo shows included Howard Roberts and Albany Galleries, Cardiff; Clarges Gallery; and Welsh Gallery in Abergavenny. He did a considerable amount of commissioned work for the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff, murals, drawings and dioramas; also the Welsh National Union of Mineworkers’ banner.
