Artist in various media, born in Staffordshire, who studied at Goldsmiths’ College School of Art and St Martin’s School of Art, 1961–5, and who went on to teach. Lectured at Furzedown College of Education, 1972–6, then part-time at Thurrock School of Art. In 1970 he published Etching and Intaglio Printing, having been engaged in opera design for two years, in 1972 carrying out a mural for the French government. Took part in group shows in Britain and France. His solo exhibitions included Greenwich Theatre Gallery, 1967; Versailles Salon des Arts, 1975; Salon de la Porte d’Italie, Paris, in 1976; and in the same year he shared a show with Frederick Palmer at Woodlands Art Gallery. Middleton’s work included highly stylised figure studies.
