Self-taught artist in oil, photographer, publisher and teacher, born in Manchester. Mellor said that his themes “generally were figures in an environment, closely allied to the Surrealists”. He was a photographer from the 1930s, teaching it at Exeter College of Art, 1969–81; began painting about 1946; and from 1952 was a publisher of poetry under the imprint Fantasy Press. His work was included in extensive group and solo shows in Oxford, Paris, Cheltenham, Didcot, London, Exeter and Birmingham. He was represented in The Birmingham Seven show at John Bonham, Murray Feely Fine Art in 1991. Arts Council holds examples. Lived in Clyst St Mary, Exeter, Devon.
