Artist in a variety of media, including prints and ceramics, who studied at Watford, Harrow and Central Schools of Art. He was married to the painter Martina Thomas (1924–95), and his show Living with Angels, in 1996 at Pallant House, Chichester, was dedicated to her. Mellon’s other shows included Victoria & Albert Museum, 1972 and 1994; David Paul Gallery, Chichester, and British Craft Centre, both 1978; Solomon Gallery, Dublin, 1983; and Gainsborough’s House, Sudbury, 1988. In 2003, Zimmer Stewart Gallery, Arundel, exhibited Mellon’s ceramics, prints and drawings, and there was a retrospective at the Otter Gallery, University College Chichester, in 2005. Mellon was an honorary fellow of the Craft Potters’ Association. Lived in Bognor Regis, Sussex.
