Artist who produced naïve, richly coloured pictures packed with incident. MacNeil was a full-time gamekeeper in Aberdeenshire, where he was born in Turriff. Although he studied painting with Peter Goodfellow of The Lost Gallery, Strathdon, where his work was permanently on show, MacNeil was essentially self-taught. Aberdeen Art Gallery owned his work.
