Painter, born in Gillingham, Kent, who studied at Blackpool College of Technology and Art, 1973–4; Bristol Polytechnic, 1974–7; and the Royal College of Art, 1978–81. From 1980 exhibited in London at Curwen Gallery, in America and Germany, latterly showing in mixed exhibitions at Anna Bornholt Gallery, 1995; Hales Gallery, 1996; in John Moores Liverpool Exhibition, 1997–8 and 1999–00. McGinn’s work was at the forefront of a revival of photo-based painting in the 1990s, his canvases mixing both a misty sensuality and frosty, clinical pallor. In 2004, Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester, had on loan Phobia, 2000, a large acrylic on canvas by McGinn.
