Artist, born in Edinburgh, who graduated with first-class honours in drawing and painting from the College of Art there, 1992–6, achieving her master’s in painting, 1996–8. In 2003 McGill wrote that “for a number of years I have been greatly interested in, and have experimented with, various techniques using wax as a dominant material. Working in many scales, my paintings have developed into organic aerial landscapes which lean towards the abstract through the use of mixed media.” Among the many awards she gained were the landscape painting prize, RSA, annual student exhibition, and Helen A Rose Bequest Prize for distinguished work, Edinburgh College of Art, both 1996; finalist, Noble Grossart Painting Prize Exhibition, 1998 (and 2000); commendation for prints, Burton Art Gallery, Bideford, 1999; and Alexander Graham Munro Travel Award at the RSW in 2003.
