Painter who studied at Central St Martins School of Art, 1992–5, with a period at Kobatake Kobo Studio School, Japan, in 1995, then the Royal Academy Schools, 1997–00. In the final year show there he exhibited his enigmatic oil on canvas Clearlight. McDonald won a David Murray Studentship in 2000. Exhibitions included Moving Landscapes, Museum of Art, Kiyosato, and Basement Bar, Tokyo, both in Japan, 1998; and Japan Centre, Art Version, and Young Observers, Albert Hotel, both in London in 1999. McDonald was based variously in London and Tokyo.
