Painter, born in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. He studied at Bath Academy of Art, 1981–4, gaining an honours degree, then obtained his master’s degree at Goldsmiths’ College School of Art, 1988–90. Was included in New Contemporaries at ICA, 1989–90, and in 1991 at Barclays Young Artist Award at Serpentine Gallery. Had a solo show at Frith Street Gallery, 1991. In 1992–3 May was included in Twelve Stars at Arts Council Gallery, Belfast, with tour, his work Alluvion 2, of 1992, being acquired for the European Parliament Collection. This was described as “the quintessence of gestural painting, combining European eroticism with post-war American abstract painting.” Shared a show with Alan Keane at Lead White Gallery, Dublin, in 2003.
