Painter, printmaker and teacher, born in Bournemouth, Hampshire, who attended Coventry College of Art, 1966–7; Birmingham College of Art for his master’s in fine art, 1967–70; and the Royal Academy Schools, 1970–3. Between 1979–99 he was art master at Rugby School, from 1999–03 a lecturer at Leith School of Art, Edinburgh. Among his awards were the British Institution Prize for Printmaking, 1971; David Murray Scholarship for Landscape, 1971–3; Hacker Prize for Printmaking, 1972; Royal Academy Awards for Printmaking and Academic Drawing and Painting, 1973; and an Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Award, 1978. Later group shows included De Weem Gallery, Westeremden, Netherlands, 1991, and Long and Ryle, 1998. Among later solo exhibitions were Bourne Fine Art, Edinburgh, 2001–2, and Flying Colours Gallery, 2003, where he showed imaginatively stylised figurative works, iconic in manner.
