Abstract artist, born in Warsaw, Poland, who studied at Academy of Fine Art there, 1974–9, then Chelsea College of Art, 1981–2. His spiritually inspired creations were shown widely in group exhibitions in Britain and abroad, including Placed/Displaced (installation), Chisenhale Gallery, 1986; Whitechapel Open from 1989; Todd Gallery, 1992; and he represented Britain in EC Young Painters, The Arts Centre, Seoul, 1993. After a solo exhibition at Künstlerhaus, Hamburg, 1985, later ones included Galeria Dziekanka, Warsaw, 1991, Galerie Marie-Louise Wirth, Zürich, and Gimpel Fils Gallery, both 1993. In 2001 Malinowski had a show which included site-specific work at De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill-on-Sea, with a further exhibition at Gimpel in 2002 for which Michael Nyman composed and conducted a special one-off concert of music.
