Artist using oil, acrylic and Chinese ink, born in Singapore. He studied at St Martin’s School of Art, 1961–4, under Frederick Gore, then Royal College of Art, 1964–7, with Carel Weight. He taught at various art colleges and schools in England and Wales, 1969–88, then resumed full-time painting in 1989. Group shows included Whitechapel Art Gallery, ICA, Arnolfini Gallery in Bristol, elsewhere in the provinces and abroad. Solo exhibitions included Arnolfini, Royal College of Art, Commonwealth Institute, Compass Gallery in Glasgow and Singapore. Tate Gallery, National Art Gallery in Singapore and Museum of Modern Art in Hyogo, Japan, hold Mak’s work; the several examples in Arts Council collection are all abstracts. Lived in Mortimer, Berkshire.
