Painter, born in Elgin, Moray. He studied at Glasgow School of Art and Jordanhill College of Education. He soon went on to win a number of awards, including the Shell Expo Award in 1983 and 1984; RSA’s Young Artist; Royal Over-Seas League Commonwealth Premier Award in 1986; and Scotland on Sunday Mayfest Award three years later. He showed in mixed groups at RSA, Aberdeen Art Society and elsewhere. His first solo show was at Compass Gallery, Glasgow, in 1986. In 1987 his work was at Boundary Gallery; in 1989 he had a show at Glasgow Print Studio. Scottish Arts Council, Courtauld Institute and Contemporary Art Society hold his work. This has been described as “idealisations of people, of the land around him and their animals”, rich and animated surfaces using “varied textures of painted collage”.
