Artist and lecturer, born in London, who studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, 1942–3, Royal Air Force service intervening, and 1947–9, notable teachers including Allan Gwynne-Jones. Mackinnon taught drawing and textiles at the Central School of Arts and Crafts, 1943–8, and was principal lecturer, printed textiles, at Hornsey College of Art/Middlesex Polytechnic, 1968–88. He was an associate of the RSA. Early group shows included LG, 1949 and 1955; Young Contemporaries and Riverside Museum in New York, both 1950; Beaux Arts Gallery, 1955; Roland, Browse and Delbanco, 1955 and 1959; RA Summer Exhibition, 1976; and Basel and Toronto Art Fairs, 1980. Exhibited solo early in his career with Gimpel Fils, later with Gillian Jason and the New Grafton Gallery.
