Painter who was born in London and took a bachelor’s degree in fine art at Central School of Art and Design, 1979–82. From then he painted continuously, moving to Dorset in 1989. Lowery settled six miles from West Bay, a small harbour which for years became the focus of his tranquil, muted paintings. He liked “the idea of quarrying a restricted subject for the greatest variety it can be made to yield…. The more I worked, the more it became possible to reduce the amount of detail required to approach the feeling that haunted me.” Showed in Devon with Gordon Hepworth Gallery at Newton St Cyres and solo at Art First, 2002.
