Painter, printmaker and teacher, born in Nottingham, who studied at the College of Art there, 1957–61, then Royal Academy Schools, 1962–5. In the latter year Leverett had the first of a series of shows at Redfern Gallery and exhibited in Young Contemporaries, in 1967 at John Moores Liverpool Exhibition and in 1968 in Britain Painting and Sculpture at Whitechapel Art Gallery and the RA bicentary exhibition. Other one-man shows were held at Bear Lane Gallery, Oxford; Ikon Gallery, Birmingham; ICA and overseas; and Jill George Gallery, 1995 and 2001. Leverett taught at Slade School of Fine Art and Reading University. He produced both abstract and landscape pictures, sometimes large and epic in conception, as with his Sacred Gardens shown at Redfern in 1990.
