Painter, sculptor, critic and teacher. Born in Bombay, India, Lee studied at the Royal College of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art, where he became friendly with Paul Nash, who describes him in detail in his autobiography Outline. Lee did a notable drawing of Nash. Was an enthusiastic amateur musician. From early in the 1920s Lee was associated with the Friday Club and LG, of which for a decade from the mid-1920s he was president. He was chairman of the International Surrealist Exhibition in London in 1936. As well as acting as art critic for several publications, such as The New Statesman and The New Age, Lee lectured at Westminster School of Art. His sculpture can be found in a number of English provincial churches and at the cathedral in Gibraltar.
