Painter of abstract pictures and teacher who studied at Birmingham College of Art, 1970–1, then MFA Maryland Institute, Baltimore, America, 1973–5. He gained a Greater London Arts Association Award, 1979, then a John Brinkley Fellowship in Painting at Norwich School of Art, 1981. Group shows were many, including Platform ’71 at Museum of Modern Art, Oxford, 1971; British Painting at Hayward Gallery, 1974; Henri Gallery, Washington, America, 1975; Tolly Cobbold Eastern Arts Touring Exhibition, 1981; and British Artists at Cyprus College of Art at Woodlands Art Gallery, 1983. Solo shows included Nicola Jacobs Gallery, 1981, and The Atkinson Gallery, Millfield, 2002. By then, Jones acknowledged many influences on his brightly coloured, optimistic and vibrant paintings.
