Painter, draughtsman and teacher, born a farmer’s son at Cwm Wysg, on the border of Brecon and Carmarthen. Country shows, markets and sheepdog trials were sketched for later working up into the country pictures for which Jones became famous in the principality. Graduated in fine art from Swansea College of Art, 1950–5. Then spent two years with Celtic Studios, designing stained glass windows for churches in Britain and abroad. Was head of the art department at Ysgol y Preseli in Crymych, Pembrokeshire, until he took early retirement to concentrate on his own work. Jones exhibited widely in Wales, elsewhere in Britain and in America, with work in British and foreign public collections. He gained the Rotary Award for outstanding service to art in 1978.
