Painter who studied at Farnham School of Art, 1986–7, winning a first-class honours degree at City and Guilds of London Art School, 1987–90, and her master’s in fine art, Royal College of Art, 1990–2. Gained several travel awards, including the John Minton, 1991; a Berkeley Square Gallery Award, first prize at the Insight Exhibition and a Delfina Scholarship, all 1992; and in 1993–4 a Susan Summer Fellowship, with a residency at the artists’ complex at Bantam, Connecticut, America, Summer and her husband Robert having bought several of Johnsen’s pictures. Johnsen’s work ranged from Turneresque landscapes through deserts and canyons populated by cartoon characters to nature and flower paintings. Commissions included paintings for the Blenheim Restaurant Group shows included Long and Ryle, 1992; British Restaurants, 1993; Young British Contemporary at Lefevre Gallery, 1997; and Eastwood MacLean, Winchester, 2000.
