Painter and teacher, born in Yorkley, Monmouthshire. He studied at Lydney School of Art, 1951–3, then Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, 1953–5, under Karel Vogel. He went on to teach at South-East London College. James was a member of SGA, also exhibiting at RA, NEAC, ROI and RBA. Solo shows included Fairfield Halls, Croydon. Lived in London.
