Artist and teacher producing abstract work such as Update, oil on canvas, at Royal Over-Seas League Open, 1994. Born in Kilwinning, Ayr, Irvine studied medicine at Aberdeen University, then attended Edinburgh College of Art and Les Beaux-Arts de Montpellier, France. Taught widely, including privately in Edinburgh and as a visitor at Winchester School of Art. Awards included Stuart Prize at RSA, 1986; Spanish Government Scholarship, 1987; a Scottish Arts Council Small Assistance Grant, 1989; and the Hope Scott Trust Award, 1992. Took part in many mixed shows, including The New Generation in Scotland, Mercury Gallery, Edinburgh, and tour, 1985–6; Chicago International Art Exposition, in America, 1988–9; Modern Masters, City Arts Centre, Edinburgh, 1992; and Solitude and Isolation, Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh, 1993.
