Artist using a range of modern media who did a foundation course in art and design, Goldsmiths’ College, 1985–6, graduating with first-class honours in fine art there, 1986–8. Awards included first prize, Onufri 99, International Art Exhibition, Tirana, Albania, and a London Arts Board Individual Artist Award, both 1999, in 2000 being nominated for the Paul Hamlyn Awards for Artists. Her many residencies included Rosendale Odyssey, The Photographers’ Gallery, 1996; High Definition: British Design for a Digital Future, British Council, with Brazil and Far East tour, 1999; and Genes and Makeup, funded by Lighthouse, Brighton, shown at the Round House and Brighton Media Centre Gallery, Brighton, 2000. Illingworth was also involved in projects involving ex-offenders and political refugees.
