Artist in acrylic, watercolour and etching, and teacher, born in London but with strong Welsh connections. He studied at Durham University, 1958–62, with Victor Pasmore as tutor, and gained the Thomas Penman Scholarship and a State Scholarship. After graduation Humphreys taught at Ravensbourne College of Art & Design, 1963–9, then painted and travelled full-time. While most of his landscapes were set in Wales, Humphreys spent part of each year in the Hebrides, also visiting countries such as Czechoslovakia, Mexico, Peru and Chile. The relationship of figures to landscape and elements of Symbolism were aspects of Humphreys’ work. Took part in many group shows including Arts Council Young Contemporaries, 1960; John Moores Liverpool Exhibition from 1967; Royal National Eisteddfod of Wales from 1968; RCamA, 1989; and The Discerning Eye, Mall Galleries from 1991.
