He studied at Kingston College of Art, 1968–72. Group appearances included Contemporary Choice, Serpentine Gallery, 1982; Contemporary Art Society Market, 1986; Whitechapel Open, Whitechapel Art Gallery, 1988; and Critics Space 5, at Air Gallery, and East End Open Studios, at Milborne Street, both 1989. In 1980 Hetherington showed solo at House Gallery.
